Ventricular dysphonia is a voice disorder marked by the pathologic participation of the false vocal folds in phonation. In this report, a patient is presented who produced a symmetric traveling wave on the ventricular folds during speech, a phenomenon not previously described. The dysphonia is this case was most likely caused by a previous endotracheal intubation. The literature on ventricular phonation is reviewed and a possible cause resulting from an endotracheal intubation is presented. In addition we will explain the presence of the mucosal traveling wave on the false vocal folds of this patient and the lack of its description in previous studies.
